(Plus a Step-by-Step Install Using a Proven Parts List)
This article has two parts:
- General, brand-agnostic guidance for mounting and plumbing a skid-steer hydraulically driven snow blower to a tractor using a PTO hydraulic power pack.
- A specific, no-guesswork install that plumbs directly to the blower’s valve block using a Good Works Tractors / IronCraft 21 GPM power pack, with a curated, cart-ready parts list from DiscountHydraulicHose.com.
Part 1 — General Guide: What “Good” Looks Like
Mounting & Power
- SSQA required: Your loader should have a skid-steer quick-attach plate. The blower mounts just like it would on a skid steer.
- Hydraulic power: Most tractors lack the flow (GPM) at the remotes. Use a PTO-driven hydraulic power pack sized to the blower’s required GPM.
- Three lines to every hydraulically driven blower:
- Pressure (P) → blower motor
- Return (T) → reservoir
- Case drain (CD) → direct to tank with near-zero backpressure (protects motor shaft seals)
Line Sizing That Works Around ~21 GPM
- Keep the long runs big to keep velocity and heat down:
- ¾″ ID pressure
- 1″ ID return
- 3/8″ ID case drain (low pressure)
- Short ½″ stubs (if present) are usually fine, but the cleanest approach is direct-to-valve-block plumbing in large sizes.
Thread/Seal Cheat Sheet
- Power pack: SAE/ORB (O-ring Boss) — seals on an O-ring.
- Hoses: JIC 37° flare — metal-to-metal cone seal (no tape/paste).
- Blower valve block: DIN 24° metric seats (e.g., M22×1.5 and M14×1.5) — use proper metric-to-JIC adapters that include the metric sealing rings.
- BSPP/G threads: Seal with bonded washers (not used in our final direct-to-block setup).
Case-drain reality: Many PTO packs (including the value-priced IronCraft/GWT 21 GPM) do not include a case-drain return port. Your blower requires a free-flow case drain direct to tank. The fix is a simple tank bulkhead.
FYI: Included Hose Lengths on Our Blower
- Pressure/Return: 63″ / 67″
- Case drain: 63″
(We bypass these in the step-by-step by plumbing directly to the valve block. Your long hose lengths are user-specific.)
Part 2 — Specific Install: Direct-to-Valve-Block, ¾″ Pressure, 1″ Return, Case Drain Direct to Tank
Blower: Victory SS-SB-60HS (18–22 GPM)
https://etractorimplements.com/product/ss-sb-60hs-snow-blower-front-mounted-to-your-skid-steer/
Power pack: Good Works Tractors / IronCraft 21 GPM PTO power pack
https://www.goodworkstractors.com/product/pto-hydraulic-power-pack-for-tractors/
Ports: Pressure #12 ORB, Tank/Return #16 ORB
Important case-drain note: This unit is an excellent value, but does not include a case-drain port. The blower requires a dedicated case-drain line direct to tank. Either DIY a tank bulkhead return on this unit’s reservoir, or source a power pack with a factory case-drain.

D) Case-drain reservoir connection
- Bulkhead to tank (direct-to-oil):
2700LN-06-06 — 3/8″ JIC Bulkhead Union (includes locknut)
https://www.discounthydraulichose.com/2700LN-06-06.html
Route: Case drain goes direct to tank — no check valves, no filters, no tees.
Step-By-Step Install (print-friendly)
- Mount the blower on SSQA and support hoses to avoid strain.
- Stage the power pack on the 3-pt, fill reservoir per spec (leave headspace for expansion).
- Add the case-drain bulkhead to the reservoir: install 2700LN-06-06 so the inside port opens directly to oil.
- Adapt the blower valve block:
- P (M22×1.5): Install 9068-12-22 → now ¾″ JIC male at the block.
- T (M22×1.5): Install 9068-12-22, then 2406-16-12 → now 1″ JIC female at the block.
- CD (M14×1.5): Install 9068-06-14 → now 3/8″ JIC male.
(Adapters are “w/ seal”; no tape/paste. Tighten to spec.)
- Build 90° exits at the pack:
- Pressure port (#12 ORB): Install 6400-12-12 (straight), then add 6500-12-12 and clock the 90°.
- Tank port (#16 ORB): Install 6400-16-16 (straight), then 6500-16-16 and clock the 90°.
(ORB O-rings come installed; lightly oil O-rings; torque per spec.)
- Hose connections:
- Pressure line: HT-12-ASB (¾″) with FJX-12-12 ends → from block ¾″ JIC to pack ¾″ JIC at the 90°.
- Return line: HT-16-ASB (1″) with FJX-16-16W ends → from block 1″ JIC to pack 1″ JIC at the 90°.
- Case drain: R16-06-ASB (3/8″) with FJX-06-06 ends → from block 3/8″ JIC to 3/8″ JIC bulkhead.
- Route with gentle bends, abrasion sleeve, and cushioned clamps. Leave slack for full loader travel.
- Fill, purge, test:
- Top off reservoir. Crack a high JIC at the blower, bump PTO to purge air, tighten, then idle PTO and cycle the chute.
- Bring to operating RPM; check for leaks; re-torque warm if needed.
- Set relief to the lowest stated limit (e.g., 2,500 psi on the pack).
- Verify oil temp under load (the 1″ return keeps backpressure/heat down).
Why This Setup Is “Best”
- Lowest restriction where it matters: 1″ return for nearly the entire run → lower backpressure, cooler oil, longer component life.
- Fewest conversions: Metric DIN → JIC once at the block; ORB → JIC once at the pack.
- Serviceable & robust: JIC and ORB are field-friendly; DIN adapters include the correct seals.
- Case-drain protected: Dedicated, direct-to-tank path prevents motor seal failures.
